Collagen is the most important protein produced by the human body, it is mainly formed by the amino acid glycine (33%), proline and hydroxyproline (22%) (primary structure) in a triplex helix which is formed by three α chains (1).

Hydrolyzed collagen acts in two different forms in the dermis; the free amino acids provide building blocks for the formation of collagen and elastin fibres, and collagen oligopeptides act as ligands, binding to receptors on the fibroblasts’ membrane and stimulating the production of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid (1-2)

Marine collagen peptides promote the synthesis and deposition of collagen, the differentiation and proliferation of fibroblasts (4)
